Having seen the U6's & U7's compete well at Reading in August, It was now the turn of the U8's to represent our Development Centre. The tournament was made up of teams from Reading FC's Hampshire and Basingstoke Development Centres, as well as 2 teams of Reading Academy U8's.
In our opening 2 games we faced the academy teams and this was great, as it gave our boys and parents a chance to see the level of the signed players and the level they must achieve if they are to become signed players themselves. Again we took the opportunity of playing today's matches to try a number of players in positions which they weren't previously used to, in an attempt to challenge them further and to add to their development, and again we got a lot of positives out of this.
All in all, this was another great day and a fantastic experience for all the players who travelled over to Madejski Training Centre from our Development Centre.
"Over the years, it's been great to work with Nick Bolton and his staff at Advanced Sports Coaching. The partnership that Reading Academy has built up with them is now paying huge dividends, as a steady stream of quality players are being forwarded into our Academy and Elite Centre's. This is resulting in an ever increasing number of players earning Academy contracts after coming through the ASC Development Centre system."
Lewis Goater
Reading Academy Foundation Coach
With the Elite Centre and Academy teams getting back into regular training at Reading FC this month, Advanced Sports Coaching Ltd can confirm that we now have a total of 18 boys from U6 through to U17 who have come through our system and are currently training with Reading FC. Congratulations to all those who have so far achieved this and good luck to all the boys who are training hard in our DC hoping to achieve the same in the future!!
Having built up a good group of U6/U7 players over the last year, we felt now would be a good time to see them play in matches to help us, and them, gauge how they've developed over that period of time. Therefore, we travelled over to Reading's Training Dome to play against a group of U7's who have been training with the academy over the summer. Again our boys performed brilliantly and managed to compete well throughout the morning. Yet again the feedback from the academy was excellent and our Development Centre is now seen as one of the top centre's in the area!!
Advanced Sports Coaching Ltd was delighted to offer members of its Swindon based Development Centre, the chance to act as a guard of honour at the Reading v Cardiff City Championship first leg match at the Madejski stadium. To make the occasion extra special, the players were also invited to go onto the pitch again at half time and take part in a shooting session. The match was watched by 22,000 fans and was also covered live on Sky TV. All parents and players thoroughly enjoyed this ‘once in a lifetime opportunity’.
Due to the horrendous weather we've been experiencing over the last month, our DC players haven't had many opportunities to train or play. So the Reading Academy Tournament proved a great chance to see them in a competitive match situation again. Unfortunately our U7's didn't get to play this time around, as their proposed tournament scheduled for last week fell victim to the heavy snow and had to be postponed!!
The tournament for U8's, U9's, U10's and U11's was spread over 2 days which saw our teams play against some very good opposition. All the teams we entered gave a good account of themselves and we were delighted to see 3 of our 4 age groups represent our DC in the finals of their particular age groups.
However, not everything went to plan, with a number of players unavailable for various reasons including North Wilts Rep Team and family holiday commitments. Add to this an incident on the M4 which resulted in a most of our U9's arriving late to their tournament and this made it all the more remarkable that we did so well.
Joe and I decided to approach this tournament slightly differently to the other teams who had entered, in the fact that we wanted to see how our players would cope playing out of their comfort zones, by playing in various different positions. The players showed great character in accepting this and although this prevented us winning as many matches as the players and parents would have liked, it definitely added to the players development. As a Development Centre we aim to ensure that our players are comfortable playing in any position on the pitch if asked and as a result of this we saw a number of fantastic displays from players who up until now didn't realise how effective they could be playing a different role.
So all in all, a positive couple of days of football and we look forward to playing again in the near future.
Members of our Advanced Sports Coaching Development Centre and ASC Youth Football Club were invited to take part in a match day experience at The Madejski Stadium, Reading. The day consisted of a guided tour of the stadium, a photo opportunity on the pitch and tickets to see the Reading v Doncaster Rovers match. The day was an enormous success with around 80 kids and parents taking part in the experience. The match itself turned out to be a thrilling encounter with Simon Church (who paid a visit to our Development Centre back in May) scoring the winning goal in the dying minutes.
The continual growth of our successful Development Centre was recently boosted even further by a visit from Reading FC players, Simon Church and Alex Pearce, along with Reading FC's Senior Scouting Co-ordinator Tim Pink. The evening started with a short introduction and an interesting question and answer session. This was followed by Simon and Alex joining in with the warm up and leading a shooting session , before finishing things off by signing autographs. It was a great evening which was enjoyed by all parents, players and coaches and something we hope to do again at some point in the future.
Advanced Sports Coaching Ltd is now offering trials to any of this seasons U7's, U8's, U9's, U10's and U11's player's who are interested in joining our successful Development Centre!!
If you would like your child to be considered for our Development Centre, please email nick@advancedsportscoaching.co.uk to arrange a trial.
Advanced Sports Coaching Ltd and Reading FC are aware of the importance of advanced coaching for players of above average ability in order for them to progress as far as possible within the game.
Due to our close links with Reading FC and a number of other professional clubs in the South West we have decided to open our first Development Centre here in Swindon. Advanced Sports Coaching Ltd aims to provide a good standard of coaching at our centre, where players of above average ability can train together regularly and hopefully progress in the game.
All coaches leading sessions at Advanced Sports Coaching Ltd are qualified to at least FA Level 2 (UEFA B, Part 1) standard or higher. This means that all of our coaches follow the FA guidelines on Health & Safety, Equal Opportunities and Best Practice as well as all being trained in Child Protection and First Aid. We ensure that all our coaches have also been approved to work with children by completing Advanced CRB checks and we also strive to improve our coaches further with continual training and development to ensure we are offering quality coaching.
The objective of the Development Centre is for us to identify players of advanced ability and potential and to help with their development by offering them the necessary skills and knowledge to allow them to progress as far as possible within the game. Although there is a genuine opportunity for players with the correct attitude and ability to achieve trials at a professional Academy/School of Excellence, It is important to realise that attending the Development Centre does not guarantee this. However, it should be noted that a healthy number of boys and girls who have attended our sessions in the past have been placed into professional Academy/School of Excellence programmes.
Players are invited into our centre after either being identified by us/recommended to us by one of our contacts or by requesting a trial and our overall aim is that every player who does attend the centre will enjoy the experience and improve their game.
If you think your child may be of a standard to attend our Development Centre, please contact Nick Bolton in the first instance.

Saturday 2nd October saw ASC's U11's Development Centre being invited to play the North Wiltshire Representative Team at The Cirencester Town Corinium Stadium. Although this was only a training match to enable the Rep Team to trial a number of players. It was a great opportunity for us to check on our players in a match situation.
With a number of our usual DC players being asked to play against us for the Rep Team and a few others unavailable due to pre arranged commitments, we found ourselves a bit low on numbers and therefore drafted in a few of our DC U10's, who it must be said performed brilliantly!!
We played 2 x 20 mins periods of 9 a side and 1 x 20 min period of 11 a side and although Joe and I have seen these boys play a lot better in previous matches, they competed well over the 3 periods and everyone was pleased with the outcome.
Playing these types of matches not only gives our players a chance to play together, but also puts them in the shop window and allows Rep team managers a chance to see them in action. Off the back of this game players from the DC have now been approached to go on trial for the Rep Team and others may be considered in the future, which proves that this was a successful exercise.
Development Centre Easter matches at Reading FC
Over the Easter break around 50 of our Development Centre players travelled to The Dome, which is Reading FC's multi million pound training centre.
This time around we took U7's, U8's, U9's and U10's to test them in match situations against other Reading DC's. All of our teams performed brilliantly, showing a lot of the techniques and skills we've worked on recently in training.
Again, the Academy staff commented on the standard of our players which has led to 2 more players being invited into the Elite Centre for trials.
More Development Centre players earn trials!!
Four more players have earned trials at Pro Clubs in December, one at Reading FC and three at Swindon Town FC. This means that over a dozen players have now been offered Pro Club trials since the Development Centre was opened just under a year ago.
As part of our Development Centre programme we took our U8 and U9 players along to the Reading Academy to play against some of the trialists and Academy players.
It was a great day out with the U8's playing in the morning and the U9's in the afternoon. The standard was very high and all of our boys showed they could compete with the Reading boys which was great for us to see.
Joe and I are confident that the players we've had in the centre have progressed since they've been with us. This has been proven by the fact that 3 of the boys who played at Reading have now been invited into the Academy for further trials.

Testimonial
I wanted to state how delighted I am at the progress my son Scott is making whilst currently attending The Football Development Centre in Swindon headed by Nick Bolton.
The quality of the coaching given to Scott by both Joe and Nick has been exceptional. Scott was invited to join the Development Centre by Nick and his skill level, ability to read the game and confidence has increased enormously.
The Development Centre is very professionally run and the coaches have a genuine rapport with the boys they coach. I would highly recommend the centre to any budding talented footballers who want to progress to the next level in their development.
