After the disappointment of the cup final loss the day before it was an early start to the morning to get to Wickhams ground in Hungerford. This match was crucial in that a win meant automatic League Champions and a draw meant a playoff with Lydiard.
Elite started well and looked to take the game to WW, their main threat being Devin in midfield. A smart pass from Ash to Oli O'Shea saw his shot being saved. WW were trying to keep the pressure on the Elite but it wasnt to last as James put a good through ball to Oli O who beat the keeper to make it WW 0 - 1 ESC.
Elite kept the pressure on and were managing to eliminate the threat from Devin who WW use to great effect releasing the ball to the wingers. With Ash taking on the nervous defence a FK was awarded outside the box as he tried get past. Up stepped James to slam the ball into the corner extending the lead. WW 0 - 2 ESC
With confidence high Kezza picked up the ball in defence and made a run down the wing beating the midfielders before being tackled. Elite had a comfortable lead and this was maintained by some great saves by Razor. Unfortunately a WW corner hit the inside of the post and bobbled along the line before being picked up by Razor but mysteriously was given as a goal by the referee. WW 1 - 2 ESC This was the score after a huge 5 minutes of extra time added on.
With some personnel changes at halftime Harry came on and gave the WW something else to worry about. Another change was Devins shirt to try and confuse the opposition supporters who had shouted "Mark No 15" who was now "No 5".
Elite had the best of the second half and several shots from Ash went just wide or over the crossbar. Another corner by James came across and glanced off the crossbar. Ash picked up the ball in midfield and the resulting shot again wide. This was the pattern for the half as both Ash and Harry had further shots go wide.
As the parents know it was inevitable that WW would make a quick break and with defenders and midfielders backtracking the ball fell to an unmarked Devin whose only shot of the game was the equaliser. WW 2 - 2 ESC
With a last gasp corner lined up ready to be taken the ref blew for time despite there being more stoppages for injuries to WW players there was no injury added to allow the corner to be taken. The drew meant that a tense playoff was in prospect with Lydiard Youth.
