With four wins out of four so far this season, we were looking to make this five out of five and carry on with our impressive start to the new campaign. So a short trip to Braden Forest School saw us play Purton for the second time this season.
The lads were told not to take anything for granted today, even though we had previously beaten Purton and they started the game well, pressing the ball right from the kick off. This resulted in two early goals for Kez as he latched onto a loose ball following good pressure from Jack which forced the Purton keeper into an early error 1-0 and then after being put through by Lou who had won the ball well 2-0. Ciaran was next on the score sheet after seeing his clearance bounce over the unfortunate Purton keeper 3-0. Then a good passage of play involving a number of players resulted in our fourth when Danny put in a great deep cross for Jack to meet at the far post before Perry drilled in a low shot from the edge of the area to send us into half time 5-0 up.
Joe English started the second half well with 2 quick goals, the first after some good work from Ed and it was Ed again who set up Benn’s sweetly struck drive 8-1, before Aaron hit the ninth after good approach play from Jack.
Once again we played some good football with everyone keeping their shape well, which doesn’t always happen when a team scores a lot of goals. Louis was the pick of the players today with a very commanding performance, but this was a good team display with everyone working for each other. Again we tried a few different things, the best being Ed playing at centre back which looked quite positive and this could prove to give us even more options.
After Curtis successfully came through his Swindon Town trial to sign a contract this week, we now have our new keeper Warren signed on and he should make his debut in the next week or so after tweaking a hamstring this week and we also have another very good outfield player joining us shortly which will help to keep everyone on their toes for the rest of the season and will give us a bit more cover and strength in depth.
Final Score: Purton 1-9 ASC Youth FC
