Lydiard Youth 'A' 2 - 4 Elite Soccer Coaching
5th Apr 2009

An early start to this fixture against a strong Lydiard side who were second in the table. Lydiard had all the early possession and made some attacks on the Elite goal resulting in the first corner. The cross was easily cleared up by Razor. A strong start from Lydiard kept Elite on the back foot for the first 10 minutes.

Elite came back into the game with Euan making a run down the left and crossing to Oli O whose shot was saved by the keeper.

Lydiard came back and the ball was kicked towards the Elite goal and a rare defensive mistake gave the lone attacker a chance to chip Razor to open the scoring. The Lydiard supporters were ecstatic as they took the lead. LY 1 - 0 ESC

Elite didnt give up and were chasing the game now. A corner saw Josh making a run into the penalty area and shooting from close range only for the keeper to stop the ball from going in.

Another corner again saw the ball coming into the box and with Ash going backwards the ball was headed just wide.

Elite were pressurising the Lydiard goal and it was only a matter of time before the breakthrough came. Ash intercepted a kick out and controlled the ball to pass through to Oli O'Shea who calmly slotted the ball past the keeper to equalise. LY 1 - 1 ESC

The second half started with Elite fired up and making a quick break with Ash passing to Euan with the resulting shot going just wide. With James playing on the wing a good pass to Oli O'Shea saw his shot go across the goal and hit the post, with Ash following up the ball was bundled over the line to take the lead. LY 1 - 2 ESC

Elite were now making all the running and the pressure was all on Lydiard and shots from Euan and Oli were either saved or went wide of the goal. Unfortunately the next goal fell to Lydiard who crossed the ball into the penalty area where the Elite defending fell apart as the ball was kicked across the goalmouth giving the Lydiard attack to equalise. LY 2 - 2 ESC

Elite needed to win and kept attacking and the pressure was building resulting in the Lydiard defence losing their shape. With Ash in the middle a well weighted pass through to Oli O'Shea gave him the chance to turn the defenders and shoot to take the lead again. LY 2 - 3 ESC

Elite now were in control and kept up the attacks with shots James and Oli being saved or being pushed wide. A resulting corner saw James cross the ball in with the Elite attackers on the edge of the box running in Ash connected first with the ball and headed into the net. This was a goal the spectators had been crying out for!! LY 2 - 4 ESC

With Lydiard deflated the score could have been higher with Sean having a late couple of chances the best of which just looped over the bar. A hard fought game against a strong team who deserved to be in the top half of the league.

Goalscorer:

Oli O'Shea 2
Ashley Prim 2
