The first match of the season for the renamed ASC Youth Under 10 team after being beaten in the final of the Malmesbury tournament by the same team started with the boys (and parents) being a little apprehensive about what lay ahead.

The game started with the ball being played up from defence to Tyler who quickly passed the ball to Kezza, who sprinted up the wing and earned a corner. The ball bounced out to Rhys who had a shot with the rebound falling to Euan who had a shot that hit the goalie.

Following a run down the left wing, Euan crossed the ball in to the box where, unfortunately, one of the Malmesbury players gave a handball in the area. The referee promptly gave a penalty to ASC which was taken very proficiently by James. Score ASC 1 – Malmesbury 0.

After the kickoff, Kezza had another lightening run down the right wing and took a shot which hit the side netting.

Malmesbury had a bit of break and took a shot from outside the area which went in despite strong defending from the boys. Score ASC 1 – Malmesbury 1.

The second half started with ASC having most of the attacking play. Tyler had a good chance in front of goal which was smothered by the keeper.

Euan had a shot which was saved with the rebound falling to Tyler who put the ball only just slightly wide.

ASC on the attack again with Euan putting in a cross which just skimmed the bar.

All nerves were on tenterhooks when Malmesbury earned a freekick which went over the bar.

Rhys then placed the ball back in the box for an ASC opportunity but Ash was very unlucky to hit the bar.

End result Malmesbury 1 - ASC Youth 1

All in all the boys played extremely well and deserved to win. All the players worked really hard with Josh, James and Rhys in defence and Razor as goalie not giving Malmesbury any space to score another goal.

Special mention to Oli who ran the whole length of the pitch to take the ball off a Malmesbury attacker just as he was about to score a goal!
