Chiseldon 3 - 2 ASC Youth

Our opponents this week were high flying Chiseldon, currently top of the league and on a very good run. So it was important for us to try to continue with the gradual improvement we’ve been showing and with the commitment that’s been evident in training and matches over the last few weeks.

This wasn’t going to be easy, as due to injury, illness and other commitments we could only field a squad of 11 fit players. So with this being the case every player knew they would have to fight for each other today and not just sit back and let Chiseldon have the points easily.

We started the match in exactly the right frame of mind and Kez went very close to opening the scoring with the first attack of the game. But it was Chizzy who did manage to open the scoring five minutes later, although this was against the play and we continued to take the game to the opposition which paid off when Toby set up Kez to equal the scores at 1-1. We then took our foot off the pedal for five minutes and the marking became slack and this was when Chiseldon again went in front, but yet again we fought back and equalised through Kez who connected with Aaron’s well taken corner. At this point it looked like a draw was on the cards until the away team managed to squeeze a shot into the far corner of our goal to make the final score 3-2.

Despite coming away from this game with nothing, the lads put in exactly the kind of display I was looking for and on another day we could quite easily have taken all 3 points. We showed we can be physically and technically strong today, which is something we now need to build on. We also showed that we now have the character, passion and commitment back, all we need now is to get a few good results to ensure we remain confident and start to push on again.
