Swindon Rangers 9 - 0 ASC Youth
8th Jan 2012

In their first game of the New Year, ASC had a difficult opening fixture playing against Swindon Rangers in the quarter final of the Cup. Missing Michael in goal was always going to be a big loss and within 2 minutes of the kick-off they found themselves a goal down after a mix-up in the ASC penalty area was pounced on by the Rangers centre forward. Five minutes later the score was doubled as a clearance from the ASC goal line rebounded off an ASC player and past the stranded Alex. Following this poor start however the ASC team began to settle down and find their playing boots. Charlie and Jack began to get the better of the Rangers attackers and were able to contain the Rangers attackers to long range strikes which were comfortably collected by Alex in goal. Ben, as usual, worked tirelessly in midfield battling to try and get the ball to Sam and Henry, whilst Cameron had to make do with minimal chances in attack. After one strong run from Sam, he found Cameron on the edge of the penalty area who’s firm shot unfortunately only found the side netting.

The second half proved an arduous one for ASC who found themselves rooted within their own half for the majority of the time. Finn and Harry were introduced into midfield and worked hard to try and create opportunities for Cameron but the Rangers midfield began to dominate proceedings. Jack and Charlie were kept constantly busy after wave upon wave of Rangers attacks bore down on them and whilst holding out for the initial period of the half they were soon overwhelmed. Three quick goals for Rangers put the game beyond ASC but even then Sam and Finn continued to battle away in midfield to try and create a chance. Cameron managed a couple of brief forays into the Rangers half but was restricted to long range efforts. Sam had a strong run and shot but this together with a single effort from Alex was all that ASC were allowed by a firm and resolute Rangers defence.

Another three goals from Rangers in the last 5 minutes brought the final result to 9-0. A disappointing game for ASC after their excellent form pre-Xmas but it’s back to the League next week with a couple of key fixtures in the next fortnight for ASC to attempt to maintain their mid table position.
