Liden Community 0 - 2 ASC Youth
9th Sept 2009

The third game in a week for ASC Youth saw another evening kick off, this time away to Liden Community who play their home games at Dorcan school.

The starting line-up saw Razor in goal, James and Rhys at the back, Oli, Ash and Euan in the middle with Tyler up front.

Liden started by far the brighter team with Razor making two very assured saves before ASC had their first shot on goal from Tyler.

The best two moves of the first half came firstly from Ash who made a mazy run through the centre beating several Liden players before his shot went just over the bar. The second move saw Euan, Ash, Tyler pass the ball around the Liden box before releasing Oli who's shot went just wide of the post.

The 2nd half started with Josh coming on for Rhys in defence.

As the second half progressed it looked very much like a goaless draw was on the cards with the only highlights being a couple of quick breaks by Oli down the right wing. Unfortunately Liden's defence were strong and were dealing with any threat ASC could muster.

With less than 10 minutes left ASC made a tactical change, moving James into the centre of midfeild, Rhys on at the back and Ash moved over onto the right wing.

The new shape midfield took Liden by suprise with James winning more balls in the centre and then being able to supply Euan and Ash who then found more time and space on the wings.

A great tackle from Rhys saw Ash released down the wing who then skipped past 4 Liden players before the ball finally got put out for a corner. Another great move saw the ball go out for a throw near the Liden goal, a long throw in by James saw Ash flick the ball back to the far post where Tyler nodded in the first goal of the game.

With Josh winning balls down the left hand side and Rhys winning balls on the right Ash and Euan enjoyed less defensive duties and good passing from the back saw space appear in midfield. This saw threats from both wings now and Lidens defence struggled to deal with the good 1-2 passing moves from the ASC midfield.

A great double block by Josh in defence, first from a clearing header and then blocking a fizzing shot saw ASC again break with the ball resulting in yet another ASC throw. Unfortunately the thow in eluded everyone and was safely bouncing out at the far post before a Liden player stuck his hand out giving away a cheap penalty. Ash calmly slotted this in the corner for ASC's second.

End result Liden Community 0 – 2 ASC Youth

A good result against a very tough team to beat, all credit to Liden who showed that they are probably going to be one of the hardest teams to break down at home. ASC showed that a change in tactics can win them games.
