After hearing that Highworth Town were running an U6 age group in their 6-A-Side Tournament, Dave and I thought it would be good to enter our U6’s, to give them a taste of what tournaments were all about.
It would be a chance for our players to play against 6 other teams, some of which we’d never played before.
Our first game was against Old Town and we started very brightly. The highlight of this match was a great passing move in which we managed to switch the ball from one side of the pitch to the other to create a great goalscoring opportunity.
In the second game we played Croft and this turned out to be a much tighter affair, with both teams cancelling each other out. Then we played the two Highworth teams and this time found ourselves having the majority of play in both games.
Next up were Greenmeadow and again it was ASC Youth who were the stronger of the two teams. The finishing was particularly good in this game with excellent strikes from Matty and Will. Finally, we played next weeks opponents Wroughton who were probably one of the strongest teams in the tournament. This game was end to end with both teams taking it in turns to have spells of possession.
This was a great experience for all the teams who took part today and also it was good for the parents to have a taste of summer tournaments.
Although results at this age are far from our minds, Dave and I were particularly pleased to see the boys finishing the tournament unbeaten and without conceding a single goal which resulted in them winning the Best Achiever Award!!
Well done to everyone!!
