A home fixture and back to the normal 10:30am kick off time. The ASC team were looking to put a couple of disappointing defeats behind them. This week saw a change in management with ‘the old gaffer’ Joe taking over the reins for the rest of the season. Training on Saturday also saw us hand out the new club strips to all the lads and they looked fantastic wearing this for Sunday’s match.
The match kicked off in the rain, with Razer in goal, defensive partnership of Josh and Rhys, a new holding midfield position for James, Euan on the Left, Tyler central and Ollie on the right.
In what was to be a very competitive game, ASC started the stronger of the 2 teams and looked to be enjoying their football. The defensive partnership of Josh / Rhys coupled with James sat in front of them, were able to deal with any attacking threats from Coleview, whilst the forward trio were playing more of a ‘free role’ up front and were causing Coleview problems across the field. One of these waves of attacks saw Tyler receive the ball on the right just a few yards outside the area. A terrific shot was unleashed which was dipping just under the cross-bar until the Coleview keeper pulled off what can only be described as a ‘stunning’ save to tip it over the bar. Unfortunately for ASC this was not to be the last of an exceptional performance from the Coleview keeper. A change of personnel half way through the first half saw James having a rest and being replaced by Kezza. ASC continued to pressure the Coleview goal with numerous attempts and some high quality corners being taken from both left and right, to Coleview’s credit they always had an answer to them. Coleview managed to spring a few attacks on the ASC team during the first half and the defence worked really hard keeping them at bay. One opportunity led to a Coleview free kick, which was cleared up by Razer at the 2nd attempt, in difficult handling conditions. ASC deserved to be in the lead after playing some good football, but the half ended at 0-0.
The 2nd half kicked off (still raining!) with Ashley coming on for Ollie. ASC continued to attempt to play some nice passing football but always having to be aware of the Coleview threat on the counter attack. One passage of play saw the ball enter the Coleview box from the right hand side, elude everybody before striking a Coleview player on the arm, a penalty was awarded which was coolly despatched by Ashley just inside the right hand post. ASC 1 – 0 Coleview. The 2nd half progressed into a more physical contest, which resulted in quite a few injuries through out the team. At times it was necessary for both manager and assistance to be on the pitch to see to injuries. The whole team put in a brave performance as Kezza, Rhys, Ashley, Tyler and Ollie all received medical attention. At times it was like a scene from the TV series ‘Mash’, for those old enough to remember it. By now the ASC lads were beginning to tire and Coleview took advantage with a ball into the ASC area. The Coleview forward found time and space to hit a piercing shot into the corner of the goal. ASC 1 – 1 Coleview. The game ended with both sides holding out for the draw.
Over all it was good performance from ASC which deserved richer rewards for their efforts. The Coleview keeper was outstanding which was reflected in the result.
