Sundays match saw us take on Highworth at home, unfortunately due to players missing we could only put out a team of 6 without subs, in the coresponding fixture earlier in the season ASC had been beaten by quite a few goals, but with confidence high ASC started the fixture very brightly, a hastily re-shaped defence saw Captain Andrew E and James M keep things tight, Highworth who are a larger more physical side started to put the pressure on with their brand of slick passing.
But every time the ASC backline were beaten the excellent Joe S saved everything in goal, one of Joes excellent long goal kicks found Flynn who expertly brought the ball down, layed it off to Joe B who went on a mazy run, he struck the ball and narrowly missed.
Unfortunately half way through the first half Highworth scored 3 goals in quick sucssesion after a wobble in the ASC defence.
But instead of folding like earlier in the season ASC became more determined and after half time were rewarded, another long ball forward found Harry who passed to Joe and then struck it under the Highworth keeper, the game ebbed and flowed with the rejuvenated James M working really hard in Midfield and defence, ASC were unlucky to let one more in at the end, but the difference in the team is really showing, a parent from Highworth spoke to me after the game to say how much we have changed for the better, thats the sort of thing I want to hear.
Thanks again to all parents from both sides and to the Highworth management team for a great well competed game.
