On a very cold afternoon, ASC returned to their league programme with a home game against Pewsey. After the first five minutes, the game looked destined to be a repeat of the earlier encounter between the teams, with ASC creating chance after chance but somehow finding it impossible to put the ball in the back of the Pewsey net.
Both Cameron and Ben had good chances, but could only find the side netting and when the ball did go goal bound, several excellent saves form the Pewsey keeper kept the ball out. With Michael untroubled in the ASC goal and Jack and Charlie pushing further and further forward, the game settled down into a battle for the ASC mid-field and strikers to try and find the Pewsey goal. Several further chances were created with Alex and Henry finding plenty of space down the wings and putting in some lovely crosses. Mid-way through the half, the goal finally came when a fine run from Cameron resulted in the ball being deflected to Ben who was on hand to slot the ball home from close range. Within a couple of minutes, a great cross from Alex found Sam unmarked whose hard shot left the keeper with no chance of saving.
Further opportunites fell to both Cameron and Finn but several fine saves from the Pewsey keeper kept the score at 2-0 as the half time whistle blew. The second half saw Alex take over from Michael in the ASC goal who filled in for Jack in defence. Sam and Ben started to dominate things in the centre of midfield and were able to supply the wingers Harry and Finn with plenty of chances to run at thier defenders. Cameron continued to chase everything presented to him and it was after one such chase, that he found himself with only the keeper to beat which he calmly did. Alex touched the ball once in the second half which was a sign of the domination ASC had on the game but unfortunately were unable to convert their possesion into further goals.
A solid performance and one that keeps them mid-table in the League.
They will need to find their shooting boots again in the next few weeks however against stiffer opposition, as they chase a further couple of victories to guarantee their position in the top Division for next year.
