After playing really well in our last match against Lambourn, today we travelled out to their pitch for the return fixture.
On arrival at Lambourn we were shocked at how small the pitch was, it was literally half the size of ours! This meant we knew that it would be very difficult for either team to play football the way we are trying to encourage our boys to play. But with this in mind, Dave and I still encouraged our players to look for passes, but just warned them it would be more difficult.
The match started and within ten minutes we found ourselves 2 goals down. But we encouraged the boys not to panic and not to worry about the score line, but to concentrate on trying to play the way we wanted them to play.
This paid dividends as Howard proved to be an excellent outlet for us by making himself available to Kian every time and this helped to start our comeback. William was a constant threat to the away team and notched another handful of fine goals and with Willo, Dan and Louis also on the score sheet, this turned out to be yet another impressive display.
This game probably wasn’t our best in terms of keeping our shape, but with LJ and Alex unavailable and Joe suffering from a sore throat on the day, we were just happy that the boys dug deep and put in another good performance.
It was amazing that we managed to get any decent passes in, on such a small pitch, but we did and it was great to see the boys relaxing and trying to play football, even at 2-0 down!!
