Today saw yet another bad result for us as we entertained unbeaten Cirencester at Lydiard Park.
After two straight defeats in a row and with our confidence at an all time low we could have done without this game, but although the score line suggested a whitewash it was far from that and Ciren certainly weren’t 5 goals better than us, as we were easily the better team in the second half.
To say we didn’t have much luck again would be an understatement, as we managed to concede a strange penalty and then we were denied what looked like a legitimate goal, all this after Warren had been carried off the pitch with what turned out to be a displaced disc in his back!!!!!. But Ciren came into this game knowing that our form was low and when they took the lead early on in the game, our confidence again seemed to drain away and I knew we were up against it.
Having gone into half time 3-0 down I decided to throw caution to the wind and changed our formation, this resulted in a total reversal of the first half and for large parts of the second half we were on top of the game and when Kez pulled a goal back there was a glimmer of hope as we produced some very good football, reminiscent of previous seasons. But having to leave things open at the back to push forward we were caught twice more which gave Ciren a flattering 5-1 score line.
In this match, as with the Wootton Bassett game the previous week, we produced some very good football, so I remain optimistic that we can regain our confidence and push on to have a good second half of the season. There is still an excellent team spirit amongst all the lads and I’m sure together we will get back to winning ways soon.
