Elite Soccer Coaching 3 - 1 White Horse Juniors
18th Jan 2009 - Qtr Finals

After a protracted break due to weather the first competitive match of the season was the Cup game against White Horse Juniors - a tough first game back!

WHJ had the first chance on goal with a quick break down the wing, the resulting shot going wide of the post. Again more pressure from WHJ meant Charlie got in on the action early on with a good save which fell to Razor to clear out of the box.
The next few minutes was end to end action with both teams making attacks.

It was Elite who opened the scoring with an excellent through ball from Ash finding Oli O'Shea in a crowded box and the first goal of the new year.
ESC 1 - 0 WHJ

Elite kept up the pressure and had a few shots on goal which the WHJ keeper kept out. The keeper cleared the ball and a long ball upfield found the winger in space and unchallenged, shot from a tight angle and squeezed past Charlie for the equaliser. ESC 1 - 1 WHJ

WHJ were now confident and pressurised ESC winning a couple of corners which almost resulted in a goal when Sean, who was on the line, managed to get his head to the ball and put the ball over the bar.
The first half finished all square, ESC 1 - 1 WHJ

The second half saw some personnel changes and a chance to attack the opposition as this game needed to be decided. A quick through ball to Oli Sinclair enabled Oli to run at the defence and having got past the last man he was cynically brought down just outside the penalty box. The freekick was lined up by Ash who cleared the WHJ wall, the keeper managed to get a touch on the ball, but the pace meant Elite took the lead. ESC 2 - 1 WHJ

Elite found some confidence now and kept up the pressure with Ash having a shot from distance which the keeper kept out. The ball fell into the box and there was a mad scramble on the box before Oli Sinclair managed to get the final touch and put the ball over the line to increase their lead. ESC 3 - 1 WHJ

Elite had more chances now and WHJ were getting frustrated with a few niggly tackles taking place. The final chance of the game saw Ash wide on the left cross the ball in towards the goal which the WHJ keeper just got his fingertips to and push it onto the crossbar and out.

A tough game, WHJ being amongst the better teams in the league, and the Elite team rose to the challenge, playing good, clean football with lots of individual skill to secure a place in the semi finals.

Final Score ESC 3 -1 WHJ
Scorers; Oli O'Shea, Ashley Prim, Oli Sinclair
