After last weeks impressive result, I was looking for the same sort of commitment today against GESS, who like ourselves have been having a bit of an up and down season. But from the kick off we struggled to get our game going and couldn’t seem to get to grips with the GESS midfield who were dominating the match. We did however manage a couple of good passages of play, one of which led to the first goal scored by Aaron, which sent us in to half time with a narrow 1-0 lead.
Into the second half and again we allowed the oppositions centre midfielders too much time on the ball and within a few minutes we were 2-1 down. Then a good tackle in the area was followed by a clearance which unfortunately hit one of our players and fell to the GESS striker to poke home 3-1.
Had this of happened a few weeks ago I’m sure we would have collapsed, but today it seemed to spur us on and I was delighted with the response the players gave in the last 20 minutes. With Harry and Toby now on the pitch working hard to help quieten down the GESS midfield we looked a different side and soon pulled a goal back through Kez. We were now the better team and in my opinion deserved at least a draw, but unfortunately for us we ran out of time and narrowly missed out on getting at least a point.
