ASC Youth C vs Wootton Bassett
20th Sept 2009

Today we hosted our neighbours in a friendly match played in glorious sunshine. Due to very little league action due to a postponement and a free week, I felt it would be good for the team to have another game before we return to league action next week.

Thanks to Wootton Bassett for the game which was played in the right spirit. This was the first time we used a bigger pitch and both teams started well and opportunities were few. After a while we started to find the right passes and went ahead and finished the game winners.

The score line was never the important thing in this fixture, although it is always nice to win, I was particularly impressed with our positional play and shape. This may have been helped by the bigger pitch, so I will endeavour to utilise it more often.

Today was the first time I nominated a captain. I took the decision to give Jack Rossi the armband and he really seemed to enjoy the role and capped it with 2 goals. Each week I will give the captains armband to the player I think did well in the previous training session, which I have explained to them, hopefully it will get passed about a lot. I’m sure they will wear it with pride.

Overall a good game, an improved performance against a good side and the sun shone.
