With no league fixture this week, we looked to test ourselves against the team who are currently renowned as the best team around, Highworth Town A.
After some good results lately I wanted to give ourselves a real test, just to see how far we had progressed and overall I was quite pleased. Highworth have been together a year longer than us, so it was no surprise that their passing and movement would be better than ours. But I didn’t feel that we were a million miles away from competing with them and man for man I didn’t think there was a great deal of difference. The fact that we had 13 players available did mean that we made a lot of changes and this was probably something that didn’t help us to settle, but it was nice to see every player getting the chance to play today.
So this has now given us plenty to work on and it will be interesting to play this team again in six months or so to see if we’ve managed to catch them up, as Highworth have now set the standard which we will be looking to reach over the remainder of the season.
A special mention today to Seamus and Jamie, who both played their first competitive games for us and were both outstanding.
