Elite Soccer Coaching 3 - 2 Wootton Bassett 'B'
21st Sept 2008 - Cup 1st Round

On paper this looked like an easy fixture but as in all cup games you cant take anything for granted!

Elite started well with early pressure resulting in a couple of corners whic were cleared by the WB defence. Eventually another corner gave James the chance to get a good cross into the box where on form Olli O headed home Elites first. WBA 0 - 1 ESC

Ash and Sean were linking up on the right and a series of 1-2's between them saw the ball crossed into Olli O who passed to James only for the Wootton Bassett keeper to make a good save.

Bassett were still in the game and made some good counter attacking breaks, stretching the Elite defence, although the final shots went wide. This game was still very open. The game was end to end with both teams having chances. A Bassett free kick was well saved by Sam who was having a relatively quite time.

First half ended with Elite just ahead. WBA 0 - 1 ESC

Bassett came out for the second half looking to take the game to Elite. Elite managed to get the ball into the Bassett penalty area but a goal mouth scramble resulted in the ball being cleared away.

An Elite corner by Razor saw Ash flick onto Oli S who put it away for Elites second. WBA 0 - 2 ESC.

Again Bassett responded well with another counter attack which saw Sam make another good save. The resulting corner was put into the box where after another scramble the ball was put over the line. WBA 1 - 2 ESC

Elite came back with some strong runs down the wing by Harry, one of which resulted in a corner. The corner was taken by James who crossed into the box, the ball was cleared to Olli O who was waiting on the edge of the box and volleyed home for his second. WBA 1 - 3 ESC.

Elite had a few more chances from corners but could not get the ball into the net. Ash made another little run into the box beating two players before being tackled.

Bassett had some attacks going forward and were awarded a free kick 10 yards outside the box. The WB player smashed the ball over everyone and into the top of the net - this was the best goal of the day. WBA 2 - 3 ESC.

This resulted in a very tense last few minutes as both teams had opportunities to improve their scoreline but the shots kept going wide.

The game finished WBA 2 - 3 ESC.

A tough well fought out game with both teams looking like they could win.
