A tough opponent for this cup match, Elite have played Coleview previously and were aware of their physical method of playing. Elite started the game the much brighter side with a lot of early possession and some early chances. The first chance fell to Euan on the left whose cross was put out for a corner.
The next chance fell to Ash who tried a chip shot which was kept out by the corner of the goal post and the keeper.
Elite were having all the chances and had to ride a few tough tackles, the worst being an elbow into Ash's neck. Strangely enough the ref didnt see it as a foul and gave a drop kick!
Undeterred by this Ash linked up with Sean on the right only for Sean's shot to be saved by the keeper - the keeper was definately keeping Coleview in the game at this point.
Again Elite were winning corners but none could be converted. The half finished as it started with Elite having a few more shots on goal but unable to take advantage.
The second half started with a lot of Elite pressure on Coleview and the tackles were coming in thick and fast. Elite managed to give as good as they got and were not pulling out of the hard tackles but were coming away with the ball more often than not.
Ash managed a couple of runs at the defence supplying the ball wide to Oli Sinclair whose shot was again saved by the keeper. A kick out fell to James in the middle of the pitch who set himself up and had a long range shot on goal which the keeper trapped between his feet!! It looked like the Coleview keeper was going to stop everything.
With all the pressure building up the game became a bit scrappy, eventually the ball was played wide to Oli who ran down the wing before crossing to Euan who controlled the ball before calmly putting the ball in the net to take the lead. Coleview 0 - 1 ESC.
It really was a surprise that it had taken 3/4's of the game for Elite to get in front.
With the management shouting for everyone to be alert from the kickoff Coleview were unable to strike back. Elite were in control and the defence ensured that Charlie had a very quiet game.
Elite managed to get a few more attacks going and were unlucky not to have a second goal as all the shots seemed to find the keeper. The game ended with Elite the rightful winners.
They played with a lot of spirit and rode the hard tackles well to play good football easily getting past the opposition but sometimes lacking the final ball to score to make this an easier win.
Man of the Match went to James who was very solid at the back and thwarted the opposition at every turn. This showed as Coleview didnt have a shot on goal and this must have a been a boring game for Charlie as he had nothing to do!!
Well done Elite, the cup run continues.
