ASC Youth 1 - 5 Melksham Town
24th Jan 2010

This weeks fixture was our long awaited County Cup 3rd round tie against Melksham Town which had been postponed no less than four times due to the recent spell of bad weather.

We knew before the kick off that this wasn’t going to be an easy game as Melksham had recently beaten Trowbridge who were, up until then, regarded as the best team in the Mid Wilts League.

We started the match really well and went into the lead after 7 minutes when Ed headed Aaron’s corner kick into the net. We then went on to totally dominate most of the first half, but the second goal never came, despite 2 good penalty claims.

Into the second half and Melksham started the half looking a lot fitter than us probably due to the fact we haven’t played for 8 weeks and when they scored twice in quick succession we didn’t seem to have anything left in the tank.

To get beaten by a strong team like Melksham is no disgrace especially after having looked the better team for large parts of the game and we now have to focus on preparing ourselves for the next match.

On the positive side of things, there were a number of good first half performances, although the pick of today’s players was Ed who had his best game at centre back so far today.

Final Score: ASC Youth FC 1- 5 Melksham Town FC
