Our last league match of the season was an away fixture against Swindon Rangers and on arrival at the ground I was surprised to see that we would be playing on an U9’s/U10’s pitch with very long grass. This was bound to sap our player’s energy as they aren’t used to playing on such big pitches, so the order of the day was to keep rotating the players to try and keep them fresh.
Within minutes of the kick off, we found ourselves 1-0 down after a speculative shot crept through Ryan’s legs and into the net. A period of good passing football and strong tackling followed and a string of good chances from Regan, Alex and Jack P brought us closer to the equaliser which eventually came through Jack P. But the good work was soon undone after slack marking presented SR with an easy second goal. Not to be outdone though ESCFC levelled again when Jack P again hit a shot which went in off the keeper after good approach play from Seamus.
ESCFC played some good football in this game and I was very pleased with the general shape of the team. Every player played a part in this good display with the passing, movement and strong tackling all being strong features of the match. 2-2 was probably a fair result on the day although I felt the Rangers keeper was slightly the busier of the 2 keepers.
