After beating Liden comfortably last week, our players were warned not to go into the return fixture expecting to it to be easy as we knew Liden would want to ensure the same didn’t happen two weeks on the trot and we expected them to raise their game.
Due to Curtis and Joe E being unavailable and with Matty not being fully fit, Aaron suffering from a stomach upset, Louis twisting his knee and Benn having not played for us yet we had to reshape our team. So to grind out a 2-0 win under these circumstances was good.
After saying this, we again played some tidy football in patches and were never really tested. Ed opened the scoring for us, looping the ball over the advancing keeper after Kez flicked the ball onto him and Kez made it 2-0 after the impressive Ciaran Fennell slipped a neat ball into his path. There were more chances and on another day the score could have been far more convincing. But all credit to Liden who never stopped battling and kept going right to the final whistle.
Aswell as Ciaran, there were solid displays from Jack, Josh and Danny and lots of effort and commitment from the whole squad to ensure we took all 3 points.
If we can get everyone fit again over the next week or so and with our new keeper signing next week, we should find ourselves back to normal by our next fixture. So to have all the upheavals we’ve had so far this season and to still be topping the table after going 4 matches unbeaten, shows the strength of the squad this season.
