Overall an OK performance from the boys today, that resulted in a win. I don’t feel it was up to the standard that we are capable of though. Many times it was noticeable that a few kept coming out of position by chasing the ball and one or two should have passed when the opportunity presented itself.
That said it’s a sign of a good team when they win, when not at their best. As I maintain at this age certainly, its team performance and player development that is the main focus and not the result.
Stratton gave us a good test today and showed that when we switched off, they we’re ready to take advantage. This led to a few nervous moments in the second half although the lads raised their game and made the result safe as the game wore on. Some really good defending and attacking on display and I’m sure as the season goes on we will start to link the good team play `in patches’ to more prolonged periods. It was unfortunate that Stratton only six players as I feel this might have made a difference to us, playing on the bigger pitch with one player less than normal may have led them feeling in like they were in too much space!
