It was back to the League against Wootton Bassett this week for a changed ASC team after their good win last week in the Cup.
The game started briskly, too much so for ASC who after little more than a minute found themselves 1-0 down following a quick attacking move caught them napping. Now wide awake with Ben and Harry passing the ball well in midfield, they started to create chances for the forwards. Finn had a good chance following a good run from Henry, then Charlie shot just wide. With Jack and Alex playing well in defence, Henry had very little to do, but saved well from two attacks when called into action. Just before half time, ASC were rewarded for all their hard work when after a good long pass from Jack, Cameron collected the ball, dribbled past two defenders then struck a powerful shot past the Wootton Bassett keeper.

The second half started with a number of injuries to the ASC side. First Ben had to go off after being struck in the stomach with the ball, then Finn was caught on his ankle. Fortunately, Ben had recovered, so was able to come back on as ASC had no more subs to call on. Harry then had to go off with a leg injury and no sooner he recovered, had to replace Ben who was suffering fron another collision.ASC swapped things around with Alex pushing further forward and Charlie playing alongside Jack at the back. Ben continued working hard and after one good tackle, played the ball to Cameron whose first time shot was saved by the keeper. As both teams pushed forward in search of the winning goal, Henry was called into action more and more, he pulled off a number of great saves but could do nothing about the winner. Following a strong run from the Bassett winger, Henry saved his shot which was deflected back to the top of the penalty area. With the ASC midlfield stranded upfield, an attacker was left unmarked to score.

Again lots of effort from everyone and with a little more fortune and less injury, the result could have been very different.
