Sunday morning saw ASC U7s travel to Stratton to fulfill their latest League fixture, the pitch was in excellent condition and we were looking forward to a good match.
ASC started off brightly with Harry and Joe B linking up really well in attack and trying a few long range efforts, in defence James slotted in alongside Blake and carried on where he had left off in the last game chasing down every ball.
Joe S in goal was largely a spectator as ASC were having the better of the game, but as has happened this season we switched off defending and allowed Stratton to attack without tackling with which they took full advantage and quickly scored 2 goals which to be honest were sloppy goals to concede as we are capable of dealing with that, instead of getting down we stepped up and in the second half with Flynn looking for the killer pass we got another corner.
I think we had 12 in the game, anyway Joe B sent a fizzing shot across the goal and the Stratton defender had no choice but to put the ball in his own net, game on... But again we stood off and a Stratton player broke through and shot, Joe S made a great save but the ASC defence didnt react and the ball was put away with ease.
We were not finished and carried on attacking with Charlie in only his 3rd game managing to put the ball over from what looked like a certain scoring position, Midfielder Charlie and James worked really hard but just couldnt get the passes in for the ASC frontmen, late in the game ASC defender Blake chipped a great ball forward but Joe B just couldnt control it. Right at the end Stratton broke through again and their shot squirmed under Joe S in goal and looked like it went over the line, the ref wasnt sure and to be honest nor was I.
We played very well but for 3 defensive errors it could and should of been different, if we can cut out those simple mistakes then we will win games, we are getting better and better.
Thanks to all the parents and players, Thanks to Paul and the Stratton parents and players and have a great Easter.
