GESS 5 - 2 ASC Youth (AET)
31st Jan 2010

Yet another disappointing result this week as we failed to progress into the latter rounds of the league cup. But all was not as bad as the result might suggest, as today for the first time in a number of games we played well and looked to be getting back to the way we used to play.

This game could have quite easily gone either way and for large parts we dominated it. It was nice to see us getting the ball down and using it well and there were a number of very good individual performances. In particular, Jamie had his best game ever for the club and his hard tackling, composure on the ball and positive forward runs were a feature of this game. His confidence and aggressive style of play seemed to spread throughout the team which is something we have been lacking for the majority of the season. Louis also had a very commanding game and put in a real captains performance whilst Ciaran slotted in well beside him in centre midfield and was another player who was very strong today. Will also had his best game so far and caused the opposition all sorts of problems and Harry also did well when he came on. Although these were the pick of the players today, every player in the team knuckled down and performed well and we must consider ourselves very unlucky not to be in the next round of the cup.

Every attempt must now be made to build on this performance as this was in my eyes our best performance of the season so far. A few individual errors and a lack of games was the only difference between us winning and losing today, but it’s good to see an amount of confidence and passion returning and I’m now convinced we are getting back to where we should be.

Well done!!
